How To Prepare For Deloitte Case Interview For Different Branches

Deloitte’s rapid expansion is attributed to its series of acquisitions of smaller independent consulting firms. Therefore each location isn’t as closely integrated, unlike other consulting firms. Different offices in different locations are semi-autonomous.

Before we get into how you can prepare for the case interview, you need to be aware of their consulting branches. Each of the separate branches has a specific role to play.

  1. Strategy & Operations: This branch focuses on handling business affairs strategically. They are either improving the supply chain, business model reformation, etc. Anything that will help a company become more efficient.
  2. Human Capital: On the other hand, this branch focuses on the human side of things. It handles organization reformation, cooperate learning, management change, diversity, etc.
  3. Technology: Anything that will need tech in mind, they handle it. It handles 3D designing, cyber-security systems, handling IT programs, etc.

Deloitte Case Interview Process

Do note that different offices in different countries have their take in doing case interviews. However, what we will be presenting to you is a rough guide on what to expect in their interview process.

No matter the consulting firm, all of them will first check your resume and cover letter. Deloitte is no different from other consulting firms in checking resumes and cover letters.

If they find your resume and cover letter satisfactory, they will give you a call to try out their case interviews. Typically, most of the time, you will not be subjected to any exam. You will go straight to a case interview. But, different locations have their take. However, this is very unlikely.

First Round Of The Case Interview

The first round of the case interview will be very similar to other consulting firms. They will conduct a behavioural or fit interview, and it can last up to 30 to 40 minutes. FIt interviews are important, and if you don’t pass there, you won’t continue on the case interview. Most likely, however, you will be able to pass it. You need the worst of attitudes to fail that test.

After the fit interview, you will now do a case interview. You will solve one to two cases.

Second Round Of The Case Interview

This time, the second round of the interview will have a different spin. The second round will have another case interview and a fit interview. However, unlike the first round, you will do a group case interview.

In the second round of the interview, you will be assigned to a group. There will be four to six people within a group. Then, you will be given by the interviewer a case, along with it, some data materials for your reference. You will be given 10 minutes to study the material.

Once the 10 minutes is up, you are then to discuss with each other about the case for 20 minutes. During the discussion, the interviewer will merely observe. They are observing your team dynamics and see how each one is contributing to the team. After 20 minutes, the interviewer will then begin to ask questions to the group for another 15 to 20 minutes.

You must appear confident throughout the interview. Even if you are not sure of anything, fake it. Impressions matters a lot.

How To Prepare For Deloitte Case Interviews

1.) Practice Listening

The case begins with the interviewer giving out a case problem. While they are doing as so, make a point to take notes on each snippet of data that is essential for solving the case. Zero in on completely understanding the context of the issue.

Listening is an ability, and not many are enthusiastic about it. Ensure that you are an active listener. Don’t be quick to answer the question. Justifiably, you may be excited, yet hold it in. While paying attention to the unique problem, don’t endeavour in your mind to address the inquiry. That simply implies that you are not engaged.

Tune in, take notes, and take everything in. In case there is something you don’t understand, let the interviewer say their piece first. From that point onward, then, at that point, you can pose a few inquiries. Explain what you need to explain to understand the unique context.

2.) Study Frameworks

Frameworks are your guidebooks towards your solution. A good framework means your approach is quick and efficient.  It is a tool that can help you break down cases into a simpler form. Just like any tool, however, you need to know how to use it.

There are different frameworks for different topics; familiarize yourself with them before coming to the interview.

3.) Practice Case Interviews

Deloitte case interviews are some of the hardest out there, and they can overwhelm you. To make it rather straightforward, familiarize yourself with the bain Deloitte interview process at first.

That way, before you practice a case interview with a partner, you are at least familiar with how to do it.

4.) Practice With A Partner Or An Expert

If possible, find a case interview partner to help you better simulate the interview. However, trying to find a high-quality partner is proving rather difficult. But, the better your partner is, the more efficient your preparation will be. Spend some time trying to find a good partner to best simulate a case interview.

If possible, ask an expert or coach to help you practice better. Experienced consultants are the ones that truly understand the day-to-day job of a consultant. Ask for advice and feedback from them. With their expertise, they can help you improve a lot.
